From the beginning, visiting Ol and his amazing family at home, I knew we were embarking on a special adventure. Following visits from the two Mels, teaching assistants at Applefields, we became more acquainted with Ol's cheeky sense of humour and knew he would be up for a challenge...

And so it was, to school!

I'd wondered what, given Ol's eclectic tastes, might pique his interest and be fun to share with his new friends. What ensued was our version of Ted Hughes's Iron Man.

A clanking robot was forged from tins scavanged from the school kitchen, a pedal bin, random chains and bike lights. Dragons flew around our heads and cymbals crashed, all to the soundtrack of Black Sabbath. At the heart, was Ol, smiling at the chaos of it all!

As teachers, our inspiration comes from those we teach.

That story remains my favourite of all time, thank you Ol!
